Driving
From Stornoway - take the A859 to Tarbert. After approximately 9 miles you will reach Leurbost. Turn right here onto the A858 which leads to Callanish.
From Tarbert - Take the A859 to Stornoway. At Leurbost, turn left onto the A858 which leads to Callanish.
This A859 road will take you over the moorland of Lewis and through the villages of Garynahine, Callanish and Breasclete. Immediately beyond Breasclete you will drive over a cattlegrid, then take the first left turn signposted in Gaelic "Tolastadh Chaolais". Follow this single-track road down the hill, cross the bridge at the bottom with the loch on your right and sea on your left, turn immediately left and the blackhouses are there on your right.

Ferry travel to the islands is from Ullapool (NW Scotland) to Stornoway, or from Uig (Isle of Skye) to Tarbert. Travelling by train you can get as far north as Inverness, but must then change to bus and ferry from Ullapool. Or you can go to Oban, Mallaig and Kyle by train, and then tavel onwards by bus through Skye, before getting the ferry to Harris.
