Frequently Asked Questions
What time can I arrive?
Please aim to arrive after 5pm on the day. This gives us sufficient time to clean and prepare the property after the departure of the previous guests. We try and ensure the cottage is maintained at the highest of standards for your own enjoyment. Please do not arrive earlier as it can be embarrassing to refuse you entry. If the cottage is ready sooner than 5pm we will send you a text message if we have a contact mobile phone number.
When must we vacate the cottage?
Please leave by 12 noon the morning of your departure. If nobody is renting immediately after you, it may be possible to arrange for a later check-out time. Please contact us and we will let you know.

Can we invite other guests?
The property can only sleep two people and it is not possible to accommodate any more. However, there are dining facilities and sufficient crockery, cutlery etc for four people. This is provided for the occasional hospitality for your friends and is not intended that you use Tigh Bhisa's facilities to cater for any others who might be staying elsewhere. Please do not abuse this.

Can I smoke?
Tigh Bhisa is a non-smoking establishment. You can smoke outside but please collect your cigarette butts. Please do not smoke indoors as this negates our insurance policy and can cause damage. If you do smoke indoors we may withhold some of the deposit to cover the cost of cleaning or replacing soft-furnishings.

Is wood and coal provided?
Fuel for the stove (peat, wood and coal) is provided, sufficient for a fire each evening. The cottage has central underfloor heating throughout, set on timers. If you require more fuel for the stove, over and above what is supplied, this can be arranged, but there may be a small charge.

Can I arrange a short break?
Yes. The cottage can be booked for any period to suit your own itinerary. The minimum stay is 3 days. The maximum stay is open to negotiation, but we do not offer price reductions for long-lets as we still need to clean and maintain the cottage in keeping with its 4-star rating. During the summer months the cottage does tend to be booked Saturday to Saturday in keeping with the tradition of the rest of the island properties. However, please enquire as to availabilty.
Why don't you have a television?
Please enjoy Tigh Bhisa for its peace and quiet, the selection of music (radio/hifi with iPod dock and CDs) and the library of Scottish books in the lounge. Most people actually appreciate not having the option of turning on the TV and having a peaceful haven to escape to. There is so much to do out of doors as well that we promise you won't be idle!

Why do you have house-clogs?
We supply a selection of clogs (Crocks) for wearing indoors, though you can of course walk bare-foot as the floors are heated from underneath. We ask that you do remove your outdoor footwear in the porch. Tigh Bhisa is situated in a working crofting/farming community where sheep and cattle roam freely! Help us keep the outside out and the cottage clean.
